July is the best month of the year in this house. Sweet Baby Love turned double figures, something that made him extremely happy only made me feel nostalgic of his baby years long gone. Every year we celebrate in a BIG way the fact that David catches up in age with his class friends. This year we had a Stand up Paddle party followed by the traditional CAKE of CAKES. First you have to learn how to handle these paddles. Then another quick class of how to get into the water safely from the pontoon. Some people are just good at balancing from minute one and prefer to stay on the board. … others like to take the fun a bit further. Once the activity is up it’s time to reveal the cake of the year. This year we were a tad unfortunate in choosing to honour the brilliance of Brazilian football the day after they lost 7-1. Thankfully Escribá are the best cake makers ever and managed to make flags of the world look like the main theme. David’s friends blindfold him while we light the candles and sparklers and then he gets to see his cake. This is the expression that I live for. To me, this is happiness in it’s purest form. As soon as the birthday wish is made there is a mad rush to grab the preferred chocolate… it happens every year. David scoffed Argentina and then got to bite his own head off I look forward to the party months ahead of time, then on the days leading up to it I stress and panic that everything has to go smoothely and now that it’s over I keep going back to the photos to relive the happy moments. I love capturing every single moment. This is not the end of David’s birthday celebrations because we now travel to Galicia to celebrate with family on his actual birthday. In Galicia we go to my Mum’s village, called Xuño. David is really lucky to be able to spend time there as he has the best cousins, well actually they are my cousin’s children as David has no direct cousins of his own. This year we had a big family get together at Tia Maria’s house where again we celebrated and had cake. Carlos, David and Anna, inseparable and always getting up to mischief of the kind you can only get into with accomplices. There was a lot of that cake on faces once the candles were blown out. As 20th July is also a very special day for me, my gift from David was a photo shoot at the beach. Can you believe that this beach sees very little tourism? It’s a surfers paradise. Our bedroom looked over the beach and at 6am surfers would park in the car park that sits between 2 big sandy beaches divided by a natural rock pier and run to one side and look, run to the other side and look, run back to the car and then full speed would change into wetsuit and peg it to the water. We got to see some pretty good waves. David and Carlos preferred to torment the seagulls. There are these beautiful sand dunes and we took a long stroll along the board walk. The walk didn’t last very long because we came across a really cool sand dune where you could do brilliant leaps and land in the cushy sand. I tried my best to get David into something a bit less Barcelona Football Club but it was his birthday and therefore he said that he got to choose what to wear. Carlos is fearless, properly fearless. I’ve been saying for months that I wanted to get a shot of David with my parents and at last we got some good ones. A very happy Mamasita here. And here it is: the official “I am 10” shot. My Sweet Baby Love is 10. And don’t think that happiness ends here, there are 6 other blogs that are part of a happiness blog circle. You’ll get a taste of happiness in Canada, USA, Germany and UK. Please join me in reading about what makes Linda Hooper happy and then follow the circle all the way round. While over at Linda’s blog, check out some of her recent work, she has a pretty unique way with movement.
